Elbert J. "Jack" Thurman Sr., 65, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at home. He was born April 25, 1938 in Spring City, TN, the son of Elder J. and Gladys E. (Houston) Thurman. He had been previously employed by Michigan Carton Co. and Iron Workers local #340. He was last employed by the Kellogg Co., as a millwright, for 15 years retiring due to disability.
Jack was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #299. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on older vehicles.

He married the former Dianne Marie Monarch in October of 1968. She survives him.

He is also survived by his son Elbert J. Chip Thurman Jr. of Pikeville, TN and his twins Jeffrey Dean Thurman of Dayton, TN and Kelly Sue Filyaw of Crossville, TN. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and his siblings Billie Sue Mainstone, Dannie, John, Terry, James and Rick Thurman all of Battle Creek.

He was preceded in death by a brother Ron Thurman and a grandson LaBron Maynard.
