Wilmer Arthur Nicholls, 88, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell. He was born in Lovell on April 25, 1915, son of Arthur and Phoebe Nicholls.

He attended Lovell schools, graduating from Lovell High School. He was called by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to serve a mission to the British Isles from 1936-1938.

Wilmer was drafted into WWII in 1941, serving in the European Theater. He obtained the rank of major before his discharge in 1945.

On July 28, 1942, he married Geneva Tippetts in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. In 1947, they purchased the farm where he resided until his death. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as bishop, member of the Big Horn stake presidency and stake patriarch. An active member of the community, he served on the Lovell School Board, Selective Service board, ASC board, and beet growers board.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva of Lovell; sons Jack of Lovell and Max of Santa Clara, Utah; daughter Linda of Orem, Utah; brothers, David Merril and Lou; and sister Jennie Lewis. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at the Lovell LDS Stake Center. Interment followed in the Lovell Cemetery.
