The son of James R. and Catherine (Loutzenhiser) Wick, Alvin served in the union Army during the Civil War. Afterwards he was in the land and real estate business. At Nevada, Iowa in 1870 he married Emma Ufford of Zearing, Ia. together they would have eight children, seven of whom survived him: five sons William, Stoddard, Augustus (Gus), Alvin, Jr., and Charles, and two daughters Mrs. Grace Merritt and Mrs. Pearl Neuman. In the mid-70's the Wick's moved to Harlan, Ia. where they lived until relocating to Omaha in 1912.
