Jeremiah C. "Jerry" Leary, 81, of 24 Marland Rd., died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

His beloved wife of 38 years, Ann (Grady) Leary, died February 2, 1994. He leaves two sons, John Brian Leary, James B. Leary and his wife Carolyn all of Worcester; three daughters, Mary T. Harrington and her husband Bill of Worcester, Ann P. Dalianis and her husband Paul, Joan M. Rice and her husband Chris, all of Holden; a brother, Aongus O'Laiore; two sisters, Mary Dineen and Peig Murphy, all of Ireland; ten loving grandchildren, Katy and Jeff Harrington; Erin, Kelly and Maura Dalianis; Jeremy and Shannon Rice; Aidan, Seamus and Finian Leary; and many nieces and nephews. Four brothers, John, Matthew, Patrick and Michael, and two sisters, Katherine and Ann, predeceased him.

He was born and raised in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, son of the late John and Annie (O'Doherty) O'Leary, and moved to Worcester in 1949. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Jerry was a mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring in 1990.

He was a member and volunteer at St. Christopher Church. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 36, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, American Legion Post 341, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6907, Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Mail Handlers Union. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his family, and following Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox.

CALLING HOURS are 3 to 7 P.M. on SUNDAY, JUNE 28, at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A.M. on MONDAY, JUNE 29, at ST. CHRISTOPHER'S CHURCH, 950 West Boylston St., followed by burial in St. John's Cemetery.

The family suggests donations in memory of Jerry be made to the Autism Resource Center of Central Mass, 71 Sterling St., West Boylston, MA 01583 or Massachusetts Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
