Glory to all the saints in heaven and earth! Our beloved father Marvin Shelton went home to be with our heavenly father on Saturday, June 20, 2009, six years to the day that his wife Marion went home. He was born September 9, 1927, to Dan and Alberta Shelton. When he was 17 he joined the Army and served in the occupational forces in the Pacific. While in the US Army he achieved expert marksman. After his service to his country, he returned to Texas. In October 1946, he married Marion Elizabeth Williams of Austin. Marvin and Marion had four sons and one daughter. Marvin was a devoted husband and father. He stood steadfast in his belief and service to our Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Northwest Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher as well as deacon at Southwest Baptist for many years. Marvin worked for 41 years at the City of Austin as a surveyor in the Public Works Department. He was a Finalist in the 1985 Public Works Employee of the Year. He retired from the City of Austin in 1988. He was a registered public surveyor since 1961. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Shelton, father, Dan Shelton, mother Alberta, brothers Woodrow, Jimmy and Melvin and his sister Lucille. Survivors are his sons Steve (Revrie) Shelton of Brady, Tommy (Marilyn) Shelton of Georgetown, Tracy (Lolise) Shelton of Round Rock, Jonathan Shelton of Austin; Christie Shelton of Austin (favorite only daughter); grandchildren, Melissa, Thomas, Kevin, Melanie, Stephanie, Stephen, Christopher, Laurie, Chris and Tara. He has fourteen great-grandchildren and one on the way. Public visitation will be held at Cook Walden Funeral Home on Monday, June 22, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas.
