WISE, Va. – Maggie Crabtree Mullins, 94, devoted mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor, was carried home by angels to live with her Heavenly Father and loved ones in heaven on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family, who is saddened by her passing, but rejoicing in the knowledge that she is now free from all pain and suffering.
"Granny," as she was called by most everyone, was born in Dickenson County, Va., was a loving homemaker, a dedicated Christian and lifelong member of the Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church. She was a member of the Wise Senior Center, was an avid quilter, loved working puzzles and her favorite pastime was reading her Bible and her favorite verse was the twenty-third Psalms.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Mary Alice Mullins Crabtree; her husband, Beldon Mullins; daughters, Anna C. Collins and Norma Jean Mullins; a son, J.B. Mullins; daughter-in-law, Mary Jean Porter Mullins; sons-in-law, Garland Collins, Tommy Large and Cecil Willis; and five brothers and six sisters.
Surviving are four daughters, Emma L. Large of Wise., E. Sue Parsons and husband Charles Sr. of Wise, Alice Fae Willis of Norton, Va., and Rhonda Perkins and husband Scott of Abingdon, Va.; three sons, Freddie P. Mullins and wife Shirley of Wise, Gary N. Mullins and wife Kathy of Wise and Eddy Mullins and wife Susan of Wise; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Natasha Hill; and a multitude of other family and friends.
Services for Maggie C. Mullins will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Brothers Joey Collins, Rusty Mullins, Glenn Kilgore, Randy Carter and David Kilgore officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of services at 7:30 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial and graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m Monday, April 27, 2009, in the Powers Branch Cemetery Clintwood, Va. Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Powers Branch Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Freddie Mullins, P.O. Box 903, Wise, VA 24293; or to the Miner's Family Scholarship Fund, UVA Wise Alumni Association, 1 College Ave., Wise, VA 24293.
