Marcus was the son of Henry O.M. Winton and Blanche Viola Heaslet Winton. He was killed in action during the World War II battle to recapture Corregidor Island, Philippines. PFC Marcus Winton was a paratrooper with the 462nd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion (D Btry).
Marcus had two sisters, Gladys, born in 1925, and Nina, born in 1926. He had a brother, Donald, born in 1928. He may have had other siblings.
Marcus was the grandson of Zollie Coffee Winton and Eliza Jane (Wison) Winton.
