Paul Robert "Bob" Vogt, 69, a resident of Portland, died at his home in Portland on April 12, 2009.
He was born in The Dalles on Aug. 11, 1939, the older of two children to Paul and Lucetta (Alden) Vogt. He grew up and graduated high school in The Dalles. He attained a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 1962.
After graduation he entered the US Air Force as Second Lieutenant. He attended supply officer training school in Amarillo, Texas and was then stationed at Lockbourne AFB, Ohio as a supply officer from February 1962 to August 1963. He was then transferred to Cape Romanzoff AFS, Alaska as supply officer until September 1964.
He then attained his post-graduate degree in accounting and finance studies at the University of Oregon in 1966. From July 1966 to August 1967 he worked with Erickson, Eiseman & Co., CPA firm in Portland. He then went to work for IBM in Portland as a systems assistant from August 1967 to April 1969. In April 1969 he began working for Cummins Oregon Diesel in Portland as assistant controller until February 1975. In February 1975 he opened his own CPA firm in Vancouver, Wash., and moved it to Portland in 1977, when he was licensed by the state of Oregon as CPA, he had been licensed in Washington since September 1969. He maintained his practice through 2008.
For the past 11 years he has enjoyed the company of Yaeko Dow. His hobbies have included golf, traveling to Mariners games as well as Iowa and Oregon bowl games, and attending plays and concerts. He was an active member of the Multnomah Athletic Club, Toastmasters (40 years), Navy League and SnowCap.
He is survived by his sister, Anne Bialous, The Dalles; nieces and nephew, Debra Hilt, Roger Bialous and Laura Motson along with their spouses and children.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with committal to follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery with Fr. Todd Unger officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
