"Independence-George J. DARKENS, formerly of this community, died at the Deaconess hospital in Salem, March l4. The body was brought to the Keeney funeral home. He was born in Michigan in l874, coming to Independence from Turner, Oregon, a little over a year ago and operated the W. H. SCOTT farm south of town. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Fletcher GALLOWAY of Salem officiating. Interment will be in the Murphy cemetery near Hazel Green where the family resides. Surviving are his widow, Mary E. DARKENS; five daughters, Mrs. Mabel HENDERSON of Boling, Mo., Mrs. Nellie RAHEA of San Bernadino, Calif., Mrs. Pearl QUACKENDAHL of Lumas, Calif., Bessie DARKENS, Salem and Elva DARKENS of Turner; three sons, Leslie of Yucarico, Calif., Ira and Nelson DARKENS, both of Independence."
