He was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield on November 16, 1915, the son of the late William and Angelina A. (Bushey) Higgins and was a lifelong resident of Enfield.
Alfred was employed with Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. and then Pratt Whitney Aircraft, retiring in 1962. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, cryptograms and walks at the Enfield Square.
Alfred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Jane Higgins of Enfield; his grandchildren, William Higgins, Jr. and wife Kathy, Mary King and husband Peter, Thomas Higgins and wife Julie and Cathleen Higgins all of Enfield. He also leaves six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Catherine M. (Rec) Higgins in 2005. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Francis and Patrick Higgins and his sisters, Rita Morrison, Blanche Curtis and June Swols.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the services.
Burial will be in St. Patrick King St. Cemetery.
