BANNER M. THOMAS DIES Brantley Pioneer Died Thursday

Nahunta, Ga., Oct. 23, 1936. Banner M. Thomas, beloved citizen of Brantley County died at his home near Hoboken, Georgia, on October 22, 1936. Mr. Thomas was born at the site where he died. He was a true pioneer of Pierce and Brantley County.

Prior to the creation of Brantley County in 1921 his home was in Pierce County. He served Pierce County in 1896 and 1897 as a member of General Assembly of Georgia. He was a member of the Board of Education of Pierce for 10 years. He served them as County Commissioner six years. Under him was built the present Court House at Blackshear.

He was the first Master of old Bachlott Lodge of F. and A. Masons which is now Nahunta Lodge. He was noted for his uprightness, and Brantley and Pierce always loved and honored him. He was the last of the old Thomas generation of brothers.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Harriett Thomas, who is his third wife. His sons are, R. D. Thomas, County School Superintendent, Nahunta, Ga.; Ira Thomas, Hoboken; Banner Thomas, Postmaster, Hoboken; Russell Thomas, Campbell, Florida; Walter Thomas, United States Commissioner and Deputy Clerk, U.S. Court, Waycross, Ga. Daughters, Misses Lizza, Lille and Ruth Thomas of Hoboken; Mrs. J.B. Carter, Waycross. Also two children by his first wife survive, Mrs. H. H. Crews, Folkston, and J. E. Thomas, Waycross, R.F.D. He has a large number of grandchildren.

Funeral will be and burial at Hickox, Ga., at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. His death brought sadness to many. Mr. Thomas was always active and interesting in his affairs up to the last.
