John C. Carroll, 72, retired carpenter and resident of Athens for many years, died Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home, 404 South Palestine, after an illness of two months.
He was born on April 1, 1873, in Henderson county, and had lived in the county all of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Joel C. Carroll, Athens; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Stewart and Mrs. Maggie Smith of Fort worth, and Mrs. Johnnie Mae Wheat of Corsicana; one brother, Frank Carroll of Murchison; seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Nora Jackson and Mrs. Cora Kennedy of Dallas and Mrs. Beatrice Zahn of Houston.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Christian Church with the pastor, the Rev. W.B. Oliver and the Rev. John Duckett, pastor of the Fundamental Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was in the City cemetery.
Hassell & Foster Funeral Home of Palestine was in charge of arrangements.
