Ligor Vangel Gusha, 84, of Holden, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Holy Trinity Nursing Home, where he resided for the past 5 years.

He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Therese (Girard) Gusha of Holden, eight children; son Gregory C. Gusha and his wife Louise of Pleasanton, California, daughter Audrey and her husband Michael Durell of Sharpsburg, Georgia, daughter Margaret and her husband Dr. John F. Mancini of Chatham, son James J. Gusha and his wife Marcia of Rutland, daughter Alice A. Persico of Holden, son Dr. John P. Gusha and wife Cathy of Holden, daughter Nancy and her husband Brian F. Garner Esq. of Sandwich, and daughter Catherine and her husband Charles Stoneham of Holden. He also leaves 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ligor was born in Worcester, son of Catherine (Soter) and Vangel Gusha. He was the loving brother of Helen (Gusha) Valentzas of Martha's Vineyard, and George Gusha of Homasassa, Florida. Ligor was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School and received an Associate's degree in Industrial Engineering from Worcester Junior College. He was a Navy veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He worked for 35 years as a Pattern Maker and Engineer at the Wyman Gordon Company.

Ligor was an active member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church. He was involved in many church activities which included founder and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 73, member of the church choir, Men's Club and a Cantor for masses and special services. He was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman and utilized his many talents to build many items for his church including the altar that is still in use. He hand-crafted many religious articles for St. Joseph's Abbey and was commissioned to carve a Papal staff presented to Pope John Paul II during his 1979 visit to the United States.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caring staff of Holy Trinity Nursing home.

Calling Hours Friday Dec 26 5-8 p.m. at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Funeral Services Saturday, Dec. 27, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, 9:00 a.m. service at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
