Russell G. Brooks, 62, of 1075 Main Street died Sunday, Dec. 7 in his home after an illness surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 29 years, Elizabeth M. (Cocker) Brooks; a son, Nathan P. Brooks of Leicester; a daughter, Nicole M. Brooks and her companion Michael Decker of Largo, FL; two brothers, William Brooks of Worcester and Robert Brooks of Leicester; three sisters, Lillian Albro and her husband George, Annette Ackerman and her husband Richard and Barbara Brooks all of Worcester; 44 nieces and nephews and many cousins. He is predeceased by his daughter Tracy Lynn Brooks.

Russell was born in Worcester, son of Russell D. and Adrienne (Blanchette) Brooks. He was a mail handler for the United States Postal Service working at the Central Street Post Office in Worcester before retiring in 2004 due to illness. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the Cherry Valley American Legion Post 443 where he served as past Commander, past Chaplin and was a member of their Honor Guard. He was a member of the mail handlers postal union and the town hall building commission. He was instrumental in bringing the traveling Vietnam Wall to Leicester in 2000. He enjoyed hunting, the ocean, the mountains, music, his children and a good practical joke. "He was very impulsive and lived for the moment".

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 11 at 11:00 AM in MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester. After cremation burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 10 in the funeral home. Please omit flowers.
