Charles E. Franklin
VALPARAISO -- Charles E. Franklin, 71, of Valparaiso, died Sunday, June 5, 1994.
He was born July 31, 1922, at Covington, Ky., the son of Charles C. and Ruth H. (Hiles) Franklin.
He was an engineer with the Gary-Hobart Water Corp., retiring in 1987. A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 94, YMCA, American Institute of Engineers and a charter member of the National Museum of American Indians Smithsonian.
On Feb. 28, 1946, in France, he married Marie (Mimi) Lang, who preceded him in death Feb. 18, 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Rose Marie Deiotte of Valparaiso; a son, Rene Battinau of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Timothy Deiotte, Nichole Adams and Dominique Battinau; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Deiotte and Alexis Adams; three sisters, Anne F. Niequist of Valparaiso, Martha (Herbert) Williams of Hebron and Frances Tabeling of Covington, Ky. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony.
Prayer service 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bartholomew Funeral Home, Valparaiso, with Rite of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso; Monsignor John J. Charlebois officiating; burial at Memorial Park Cemetery; visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; Rosary 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; memorials to Tony Deiotte Research Fund at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital.
