Wreck Victim's Rites Today; 2 Injured in Grave Condition

Funeral services for 21-year-old Howard Windham of Oplin, killed instantly in a head-on collision Wednesday evening, will be conducted at 3 pm Friday at the Oplin Methodist Church.

The Rev. J. T. McKissick, Abilene minister, will officiate. Burial will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery near Oplin, under direction of the Elliott's Funeral Home.

The collision occurred three miles north of Oplin, a southwest Callahan County community, on Farm-to-Market highway 604. Three persons were injured, two critically.

Examining physicians said afterwards Windham, driver of one of the cars, died of a broken neck.

He was born Aug. 30, 1929 in Oplin. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Windham of Oplin.

Survivors besides his parents include two sisters, Joan and Virginia Lee Windham, both of Oplin; six brothers, Robert Windham, Bailey Windham, Tommy Windham, Hal Windham, and J. D. Windham all of Oplin; and Billy Ray Windham of Oklahoma.

Meantime, the condition of Fred Graham, 52, critically injured, remained unchanged last night in the Hendrick Memorial Hospital.

He suffered a fractured skull, concussion, contusion of the lungs, fractured ribs and broken arm, an attending physician said. Two units of plasma were administered Graham for shock.

His wife, Leta Graham, 59, also critically injured, was reported "some improved" last night. Attending physicians said she sustained a scalp wound, concussion, and body abrasions.

The third wreck victim, Tommy Irvin, 14, son of Mrs. Effie Irvin of Oplin, was released Thursday, attendants reported. The least injured, he suffered a cut on the face and bruises.
