Jeanette C. Cosgrove, 74, of Springfield, died at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at St. John's Hospice after a nineteen year battle with cancer.

Jeanette was born November 26, 1933 in St. Louis, the daughter of Milton J. and Sarah Christine McSheffrey Stephens. She married John J. Cosgrove on June 12, 1954 in St. Louis.

Jeanette had been a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church since 1957 where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also had the honor to be Volunteer of the Year 1988-1989 at Sangamon State University Auditorium where she helped out with office work and as an usher. Jeanette enjoyed reading, especially mysteries and historical fiction, and doing crosswords and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Obermeier; brothers, David and Milton "Steve" Stephens; one nephew and two nieces.

She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, John Cosgrove of Springfield; two sons, Matthew Cosgrove of Springfield and Mark Cosgrove of Forest Park; six daughters, Mary (husband, Thomas) Theilken of Chatham, Christine Cosgrove of Bloomington, Jacqueline Cosgrove of Springfield, Patricia (husband, Rick Jett) Cosgrove of Naperville, Theresa Cosgrove of Springfield and Kathleen (husband, Scott) Knilans of Schaumburg; seven grandchildren, Jonathan and Adam Theilken, Trevor and Timmy Knilans and Jackson, Matthew and Brian Jett; two sisters, Geraldine Pittroff of St. Louis and Sheila (husband, Jack) Dowling of Dellwood, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.

An additional visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Mass from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Donald Meehling celebrant.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

A private family burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E.
