Veteran of the American Revolution. He was a Lieutenant, and served in Capt. Jotham Houghton's Company of Col. Denny's 2nd Regiment 1779.

His first wife was Lydia Williams Tobey, the daughter of Col George Williams and Sarah Hodges of Taunton. They were married there on Aug 6,1772. His second wife was Deborah Williams Tobey, married about 1778.

Children(by first marriage): Williams Tobey.

Children(by second marriage): Isaac Toby Jr, Ann Tobey Carter, an infant son, John Toby, Deborah Toby Field, Joshua Toby, Samuel Toby, Mary Williams Toby Williams, an infant son, and Bathsheba Tobey Wing Wing.
