Dorothy Jane Dorrycott Savage, 90, of Lexington, wife of William Earl Savage, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008 at her current residence in Wesley Village. She was a retired Art History and Weaving Professor at AsburyCollege.A native of Washington, PA, she was born June 10, 1917 a daughter of the late James Jewell and Bertha Booth Dorrycott. She received her BA degree from Asbury College and married her Asbury College sweetheart following their
graduation. She went on to earn a Masters in Art History from the University of Kentucky - after three children
had received college and doctorate degrees. She pursued further studies at the University of Tennessee and with Lou
Tate at the Little Loomhouse in Louisville, KY. She travelled extensively, making fourteen trips abroad to study art history and the weavings of many cultures. In addition to pursuing her own interests in weaving, she had been professor of Art History, Crafts and Weaving at Asbury
College since she first developed the weaving department there in 1971. She and her husband took countless college
students, over many years, on numerous European Tours of cathedrals, art museums and cultural structures. She loved her husband, children and family, students, friends and life with vigor and enthusiasm. She was an active and longtime member of Park United Methodist Church where she had served on the church board. She was also a board member of Wesley Foundation at the University of Kentucky. She enjoyed a full, eventful, productive, joyous, vivacious
loving, caring, intellectual and Christian life during her 90 years. In addition to her husband of sixty nine years, she is survived by a son and two daughters; William Earl Savage II, Sue Ann S. Truitt and her husband Jerry Davis Truitt, Carolyn Jane S. Threlkeld and her husband Tom G. Threlkeld; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis Truitt and his wife Suzanne G. Truitt, William Gentry Truitt, David William Savage, Michael Thomas Threlkeld; two great-grandchildren, Robert Davis Truitt and Katherine Reagan Truitt, all of Lexington. Private burial at Wilmore Cemetery. Her grandsons were pallbearers.
