Cinematographer. He will be best remembered for his camera and electrical work as a lighting technician on the classic horror film, "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" (1923), which was also his debut. The film which was directed by Wallace Worsley, and which also starred Lon Chaney, Patsy Ruth Miller, Norman Kerry, and Kate Lester, tells a story that takes place in 15th-century Paris, France, the brother of the archdeacon plots with the gypsy king to foment a peasant revolt. Meanwhile, a freakish hunchback falls in love with the gypsy queen. He was born one of four children as Karl Dix Gotham in Newton, Kansas, to George Edward Gotham (1858-1931), and his wife Josephine Louise Dix Gotham (1856-1943), on November 16, 1887. Besides, "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" (1923), his many other classic film credits include, "The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu" (1929), "Jennie Gerhardt" (1933), "Three Cornered Moon" (1933), and "One Sunday Afternoon" (1933). He was married to Gertrude Ellen Davis Gotham (1895-1988), on November 26, 1919, in Los Angeles, California. The couple who had a daughter named Mary were together until his death.
