"The People of Bottineau County, 1894 - 1994":

Virgil B. NOBLE was born December 7, 1895 [sic, but obviously a typo], at McGregor, Iowa, the son of Judge Reuben and Harriet D. (DOUGLAS) NOBLE. His parents on both sides were of English stock extending back to the Revolutionary War.

Virgil received his law degree at the University of Iowa and began a law practice in Devils Lake in 1879. In 1885 he homesteaded two miles northeast of Bottineau and set up a law practice in Old Bottineau. He was made states attorney of the county soon after getting to Bottineau; he was a member of the Constitutional Convention, and was instrumental in including a provision that there would be a School of Forestry in the state. He was a director and cashier of the Bottineau County Bank, and instrumental in establishing phone and electric service in the area, and was involved with nearly all community activities. He was state senator for two terms and a strong democrat.

In 1881 he married Clara HOFACKER, a daughter of one of the pioneer Bottineau County families. They had no children.

They sold their holdings in Bottineau in 1916, moved to Florida, and later moved to California, where Virgil passed away in 1932.
