Charlotte Vaughn Keyes,95, a long-time resident of Oak Ridge and a native of Virginia, died on September 1, 2020, in Farragut, TN, after a brief illness. 

Born in 1924 in Cambria, Virginia, one of five children to Everett Sidney Vaughn and Dora Fitzgerald Vaughn, she was married to John J. Keyes, Jr. for 67 years. 

Charlotte graduated from Radford College in Virginia in 1944 and taught high school science in Bedford, Virginia. Charlotte also worked as a biological lab technician for Dupont in Newark, Delaware. She moved to Oak Ridge with John in 1952, when he began work at the K-25 plant. 

Charlotte was a homemaker and volunteered in many school and church activities. She was a member of the Oak Ridge Women's Club and enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She grew wildflowers, loved birds and enjoyed travelling. 

Charlotte was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge. Earlier, she was a member and Elder at First Christian Church for many years. 

In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by husband John J. Keyes, Jr., by brothers Sidney Vaughn and Max Vaughn, and sisters Dorcas Goodman and Edith Vaughn-Parker. 

Charlotte is survived by two sons: John J. Keyes, III (and Robi) of Charlottesville, VA and Richard A. Keyes (and Marcela) of Jupiter, FL. Grandchildren: John J. Keyes IV (and Laura) of Hoboken, NJ; Lindsay K. Edwards (and Evan) of Kronberg, Germany; Brett A. Keyes (and Lauren) of Brooklyn, NY, and Gabriela A. Keyes of Jupiter, FL. Great grandchildren: Harrison Edwards, Anderson Edwards, Sawyer Edwards, Alex Keyes and Judson Keyes. 

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. 

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Red Cross.
