Merle W. Winfield, 49, of 3 West Fulton Street, Wood (Bedford County) died at 5:55 p.m. Dec 18, 1985, as the result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident on Route 913 in Wood Township, Huntingdon County.

Born Feb 8, 1936 in Wood, he was the son of Gerald and Cora Mae (Myers) Winfield. On Jan 14, 1968, in Mill Creek, he was united in marriage to Linda Mae Hann who survives.

Also surviving are three brothers and a sister: Gerald of Huntingdon; Lewis and Patricia A, both of Wood, and Jerry of Osterburg.

Mr. Winfield was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wood.

He had been employed at Owens Corning Fiberglass as a storeroom operator in the tank department at Mount Union. He had 20 years of service. He was a member of the Textile Workers Union of America local 1034-T and served as president for a number of years.

He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He also served in the military honor guard.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec 21 at the Masood Funeral Chapel, Saxton, the Rev. Don Nelson officiating. Interment will be made in Duvall Cemetery, Six Mile Run. Friends will be received at the funeral chapel on Friday from 7 to 9 pm. Military memorial services will be conducted at the cemetery following the funeral service.
