Edward Mergler was the youngest child of Bartholomew Mergler and Anna Maria Diller. He was a shoemaker by trade, however in the 1894 directory his occupation was listed as taxidermist.


His father died in 1898 and Edward was in the 1900 household with his widowed mother Anna Maria (Diller) Mergler. The last census he is found in is the 1905 census for Erie County, New York where he was 32, single, still a shoemaker and living in the household of his married brother Bernard Mergler and wife Rose. He died age 36 on 30 Nov 1909, still living at 136 Mulberry Street, Buffalo NY. It did not appear he ever married.
