Dorothy is survived by her children, Doug of East Peoria, Dave (Kathy) of Germantown Hills, Richard (Alice) of Washington, and her sister Lucille Probyn of Smoot, WY. Her husband John, brother Gale McCullough, and daughter-in-law Linda Cole preceded her in death.
Dorothy was born on March 23, 1927, on a farm in Sparland, IL, to Raymond and Ruth McCullough.
After graduating from Sparland High School in 1945, she moved to the Y.W.C.A. in downtown Peoria and worked at the Duroc Swine Association, Cilco, and Hanna Medical Clinic. In 1948, her brother Gale, who attended Bradley University, asked if she wanted to go dancing at the "Ing" with his really nice Bradley roommate. You guessed it.
She married John on August 14, 1949. They were devoted to each other and inseparable for 68 years. They enjoyed and were proud of their three sons.
Her personal talent for sewing began with a 4-H project that her mother helped her with at age 10. Throughout the years, she made nearly all her clothes and many clothing items for family gifts, including larger projects like church banners. She also enjoyed memberships in homemakers and book clubs for over 30 years.
They took many vacations and traveled to all 50 states in this wonderful country. In 1981, they began square dancing with the Caterpillar Square Dance Club. For 29 years, they enjoyed dancing 2-3 times per week locally and many weekend dances in neighboring cities and states.
Graveside services will be at 1 PM at La Prairie United Presbyterian Cemetery, 701 County Road 400E, Sparland, IL.
