Mr. Johnny W. Ward, age 77, of Vidalia, died Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a native of Montgomery County and grew up in Tarrytown. He was a 1964 graduate of Montgomery County High School and earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. He was a sergeant with the Vidalia Police Department, and was the first officer with the department to be certified in the use of radar. He retired from Georgia Natural Gas after fifteen years, and after retirement delivered cars for local dealerships. In his spare time, Johnny would take precooked meals to a large group of people who could not prepare their meals daily. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He enjoyed fishing, watching TV, word search, and especially going to Big Al's with the "breakfast crew". He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Gretchen Crystal and Ryan Ward Finnerty; parents, William Ward and Hilda Mae Edge Ward; and two brothers, Joel Ward and Eddie Edge.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Monday, January 1st, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Randy McDuffie officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
