Betty June Spangler
SEPTEMBER 18, 1933 – SEPTEMBER 20, 2021
Obituary of Betty June Spangler
IN THE CARE OF
Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens
Betty June Daugherty Spangler, 88, of Knoxville, TN went HOME on September 20, 2021…

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)

Betty grew up in Clinton, TN. She graduated from Clinton High School and Knoxville Business College. She met and married Robert Spangler and raised their family in South Knoxville. She was a hard worker and was employed over the years at R.C. Cola, Regal Coal Corporation, Roddy Manufacturing (Coca-Cola), Southern Coffin and Casket, J.C. Penny and retired from Pemberton Truck Lines.

A member of Island Home Baptist Church since 1960, Betty used her energy and many talents, over many years, to work with children of all ages as a helper, teacher, or director. She served in the WMU, and held the office of church Clerk and treasurer many times. Betty loved to sing and was a faithful choir member for over 40 years. When there was a ladies softball team she played on it. In her many years working with the older youth she hosted a special graduate breakfast every year to honor them. Every Christmas for many years she presided over the WMU "Happy Birthday Jesus" celebration presenting a devotional followed by lighting of candles and singing. In her later years, Betty especially loved decorating for special church events and manning the VBS registration table every summer.

Betty was always involved in the PTA and in the school events of her children and grandchildren. There were countless hours spent at meetings, bake sales, special dinners, band concerts, chorus concerts, ball games, field days and pick-up lines. Betty enjoyed taking short trips with and eating out with friends. She always brought back a rock or matchbook from wherever she went. Always looking for a new hobby, Betty became an accomplished cake maker/decorator and was often called upon for birthdays and weddings. Betty had the heart of a servant and was ALWAYS helping others. She served as a caregiver when her own mother battled dementia. She volunteered for Knoxville's "Love Kitchen" on her lunch breaks. She even found the time to take voice lessons and was part of the Knoxville Women's Chorus for a time. Betty would tell you that the happiest and most rewarding years of her life were spent being a mother and grandmother.

Betty was preceded in passing by her parents, Wheeler and Artensie Daugherty, and is now joyfully reunited with them and infant daughter, Amy Lynn Spangler,, Beloved husband of 49 years, Robert Spangler; sisters, Julia Hackworth, Zora Braden; brothers, Edge Daugherty, L.D. "Dee" Daugherty, dear friends, Alma, Tootsie, Kathryn Nichols, Irene Baldwin, and so many others.

{Names of living relatives removed] She leaves behind to carry on her legacy of love her children; brother; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; special loved ones; and a host of nieces, nephews both Spangler and Daugherty, ALL holding a special place in her heart.

Never meant to sit idle or in isolation, Betty's final years battling Parkinson Disease and Dementia were very difficult. However, she never lost faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and faithfully attended her church until she was no longer physically able. Betty would like to thank her Caregivers for the sacrifices they made to help her in her hour of need and for seeing her safely home. The family wishes to thank her beloved church family for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Island Home Baptist Church, 2323 Island Home, Ave., Knoxville, TN 37920.

Betty's family will honor her with a Receiving of Friends on September 25, 2021 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Sherwood Chapel & Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN 37701.
