Robert Thomas Gossack, 67, went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Tuesday morning, April 8, 2008, after a long and well-fought battle with cancer.
Bob was born Feb. 2, 1941, in Bozeman to Joseph Paul and Bernice Evelyn (Hanson) Gossack. He grew up in Bozeman and graduated from Bozeman High School in 1960. He attended Seattle Pacific College (1960-61) and graduated from Montana State University (1961-65) receiving a B.S. in entomology, a math minor, and a science teaching option. He received a master's of natural science degree from South Dakota University in 1973.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Linda Rae Cass, in Bozeman in 1962. The couple had two children, Raymond Robert and Janine Joy, and made their home in Anaconda.
Bob was employed by the Anaconda School District for 30 years as a high school science teacher. He worked various summer jobs that included an entomologist and a civil engineering technician for the U. S. Forest Service, taxidermy and grizzly bear studies for Yellowstone National Park, and elk studies for the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. He was a freelance taxidermist for many summers as well.
Bob faithfully served Jesus in various ministries such as AWANA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Christian Camping International, Wycliffe, and Camp Bighorn. He was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Anaconda for more than 30 years, serving in youth ministries, music ministry, as an adult Sunday school teacher and a deacon. More recently, Bob became a member of Grace Bible Church in Bozeman where he participated in missions ministry and flock groups. He was privileged to take several mission trips, traveling to Trinidad, Zambia, Kenya and Peru.
Bob enjoyed many family activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, camping, backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He married Nancy (Cass) Olson in 1999, following Linda's death from cancer. Together Bob and Nancy retired to Bozeman to be close to family. The couple has a combined total of eight children and 25 grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy of Bozeman; his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Julie Gossack and three grandsons, Landon, Anthony, and Elias, all of Bozeman; his daughter and son-in-law, Janine and Stephen Homan and two granddaughters, Bethany and Jenna, all of Fort Collins, Colo.; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Patricia Gossack of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by Nancy's children: Tatiana (Olson) and Kurt Ricker and children of La Grande, Ore.; Kjersti (Olson) and Shane Johnston and children of Billings; Erica (Olson) and Justin McCaslin and children of Anchorage, Alaska; Shannon (Olson) and Jim Sykes and children of Bozeman; Trevor and Rachel Olson of Palmer, Alaska; and Lance and Jing Olson and child of China.
Bob is preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his wife Linda.
Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Anaconda. No visitations/wake.
