Melvin Verle Hamilton, 74, of 144 Delgred Drive, Carnegie, formerly of the Saltillo-Mount Union area, died Monday morning, Sept. 26, 1994, at his home.
Born March 25, 1920, at Saltillo, he was the son of Melvin C. and Annie (Armstrong) Hamilton. He was twice married, first to Martha Roher Hamilton, who survives, in Mount Union; and then to Florence Waxter, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two children, Mrs. Michael (Jayne) Zimmerman of Mount Union R.R. 1 and Gary E. Hamilton, Myerstown; two stepchildren, Donald Waxter of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Donna Stuckert, Duquesne; 7 grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Mary English of Pequea, and a brother, Ronald Hamilton, in Florida. Preceding him in death were a sister, Leola Mansberger and three brothers; Richard Hamilton, Oren Hamilton and Jimmie Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 66, Fraternal Order of Eagles and a Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh. A graduate of Saltillo High School, class of 1938, and a veteran in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hamilton was employed until his retirement as an operating engineer for various contractors.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Robert D, Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. William Wallett officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three Springs R.D. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of the services.
