Elsie was born September 26, 1925, in Waco, Texas, the daughter of John and Adela Hudec. They moved to the Los Angeles area, California in 1935, when she was 10 years old. She attended Holy Family grade school and Glendale High School.

Henry J Drexel (Hank) joined the Navy in 1944 and was stationed in San Diego. He came to Glendale on leave with a friend. They visited a café where Elsie was working as a waitress. It was love at first sight. They were married three months later in Holy Family Church, before Henry was deployed to Hawaii for a year.

Hank and Elsie lived in the Glendale area until 1961, when Hank was transferred to San Francisco working for the Standard Oil Co. Elsie worked at Macy's for a while, then went to work as a teller at Bank of America. They were transferred to Honolulu by Standard Oil Co in 1967. She worked at Bank of Hawaii until 1971, when they were transferred once again to Portland, OR. She worked at Bank of California in Portland until they moved to Vernonia, OR in 1975.

Elsie loved singing and was in the choir in all parishes she lived in, since age 10.

Elsie and Hank did a lot of traveling in their later years, after the 3 children were grown. They went to Europe a couple times, and did several cruises, which they loved. The highlight of all Elsie's trips was going to Medjugorje in October 2001, with the pilgrims from the Center for Peace West. Elsie climbed both Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain in Medjugorje. She could not have done this without the help of Chuck and Darlene Moore, who she called her "angels".
