J. R. Alkire Dies; Rites On Tuesday

J. Riley Alkire, 66 an employee of the Diers Motor Company, died Saturday evening in a local hospital following an illness of one year. The family home is at 1119 South Lincoln.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Livingston-Sonderman Funeral Home. Dr. James S. Chubb, pastor of Trinity Methodist church will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Alkire had lived all his life in Nebraska. He was born on a farm near Geneva, in Fillmore County, on February 8, 1889. When he was a child, the family moved to a farm near Edgar, Nebraska. There he completed his schooling and grew to manhood.

Mr. Alkire and Miss Anna Peterson were married Feb. 9, 1910, in the home of her parents near Edgar. For a short period following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Ong, then they returned to the Edgar community, where they farmed for twenty-one years. In 1934, they moved to Stockham, where Mr. Alkire operated a garage business for seven years. In 1944 they came to this city.

He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church.

Mr. Alkire is survived by his wife; two children, Cleatus Alkire and Mrs. Don Waddick, both of this city; one brother, Jess Alkire of Overton; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Smock of Gering; and two grandchildren, Robert Alkire and Linda Ann Waddick. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Alkire; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alkire; five brothers, Chester, James, Frank, Alva and Walter Alkire; and one sister, Mrs. Rena Gunn.
