Co. F, 31st OVI. Enrolled age 21 on 20 Oct. 1861. Killed at the Battle of Resaca GA. "He was only a few feet from me when a musket ball struck him in the right eye, killing him instantly. He fell back in the creek. I had him taken out immediately, and when we fell back took his body with us; and decently interred by some of his comrades. He was a brave and reliable soldier. Peace to his remains. This young man was never known to disobey or violate an order, was really a christian soldier, possessed of very moral principles, truly a consolation to his parents."--Major John W. Free
