In the death of Francis A. McManus Andover has lost one of its most highly respected and esteemed young men. His death occurred on Sunday morning at the Lawrence General hospital, where he was taken on Saturday, suffering from an attack of typhoid fever. He had been ill for about two weeks and his attending physicians had labored strenuously in an effort to bring him back to health and strength.

The deceased was born in this town forty-two years ago and has spent his entire life here. He attended the local public schools and for a time later was employed by the American Express Company. He then went to work for J. P. Wakefield, meat and provision dealer, and after many years of faithful and conscientious work there he went into business for himself. By his honest and square dealing he soon built up a profitable trade, and his many customers will miss him in his daily calls.

Mr. McManus made his home with his mother, Mrs. Mary McManus, at 175 North Main street. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, John, and one sister, Mrs. John Robinson [Robertson] of Avon street.

The funeral was held Wednesday morning. Rev. Fr. Frederick S. Riordan, assisted by Rev. Fr. William A. Donovan as deacon and Rev. Fr. Daniel P. F. Fogarty as sub-deacon, celebrated a solemn high mass of requiem over the remains in St. Augustine's church, at 9 o'clock.

The bearers were: John J. McManus, James W. McManus, William Crowley, Walter Morrissey, John G. Donovan and John L. Donovan.

The choir chanted the Gregorian mass and at offertory rendered "Pie Jesu." As the body was borne from the church, Miss Annie Donovan played the dead march from "Saul."

From St. Augustine's the cortege slowly proceeded to the Immaculate Conception cemetery, Lawrence, where Rev. Fr. Riordan and Rev. Fr. Donovan read the services for the dead.
