Dorcas Bright, 86, of Waco, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Providence Hospital. The Celebration of Life service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, at Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. There will be a private burial.

Dorcas Virginia was born in Brenham, Texas, to the late Ernest and Winnie Rogers. She grew up in Brenham and graduated from Blinn Junior College; then graduated from Baylor University with a BA and MS degree. She and Robert Earle "Bob" Bright were married on Jan. 28, 1945. Dorcas taught in public schools and retired with 26 years of service with the Waco Independent School District in 1979. In later years she was a receptionist for Matula Photography; taught Sunday school for 19 years and was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Waco. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; taught as visiting lecturer at Baylor in the Library Science Department and sang in her church choirs.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bob Bright, of Waco; sons, David Lee Bright and wife, Eileen, of Harrisburg, N.C., and Stephen Earl Bright and wife, Kathy, of Rockdale, Texas; granddaughters, Sarah Bright Patterson and husband, Christopher, Rebecca Kay Bright, and Angela Popernack and husband, Paul; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Bright and Devon Bright-Patterson.
