Judith Alice Swanson, 81, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, surrounded by her family.

She was born February 22, 1941 in Three Oaks, Michigan, the daughter of Merle and Esther (Meyer) Martin .

Judith, a lifelong resident of the area, was passionate about several things. She enjoyed sewing and re-purposing items. She was a skilled gardener and loved to can the fruits and vegetables she grew. Judith was also deeply spiritual and was a dedicated member of the choir at New Carlisle United Methodist Church. Her love for Jesus was a central part of her life.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Swanson of South Bend, IN, Roger (Becky) Swanson of TN; daughter, Cynthia Short of New Carlisle, IN; brother, James (Doris) Martin of Plymouth, IN; sister, Nancy (Larry) Huge of Liberty, SC; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Esther Martin.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing Friday, February 10 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Kal Morrison, New Carlisle UMC, officiating. Procession will follow to Lamb's Chapel Cemetery. All times are central standard time.
