Clara Maxine Harmon, 81, passed away early Thursday morning.

She had lived in Mosheim for the past 65 years and was a member of McMillian Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She was pianist for many years and taught preschool Sunday School and Vacation Bible school classes where she made sure that all the children knew that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

One of her greatest joys in life was working with children and spending time with family. She preferred that all the family children call her "Granny". That tradition started with nieces Velvet, Buffie, and nephew, Eli, and continued when she began to baby sit Holden, Emma, and sometimes Brayden. That is how she spent her time after retiring from GE, and enjoyed every minute. Her spoiling of children was laced with love and discipline because she knew that God created them that way and it reflected her upbringing. When Maxine became more home bound, she enjoyed special visits from younger niece and nephew, Hunter and Scout. All of these children hold very fond memories of fun times spent with "Granny Max".

Survivors include: As per Find a Grave's new rules the survivor section of the obituary is omitted.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; father and mother, Thurmon and Maggie Smith Long; sisters: Elsie Wilds, Ruby Collier, Mary Hope; and brother, Billy Joe Long.

The family will receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. on Saturday. Funeral services will follow at 7 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Howell officiating.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to travel in procession to GreeneLawn Memory Gardens for the 2 p.m. committal service.

Active pallbearers will be Eli Cutshall, Holden Cutshall, Brayden Seaton, Parker Wilds, David Hensley, and Anthony Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Golden, Billy Ray Seaton, and Elmer Robinette.
