LENOIR-Memorial service for Pvt. James Archie Holder, 33,
who was reported killed in action on July 5, 1944. A memorial service was held at Piney Grove Baptist Church. September 10, at 2'Oclock.
Pvt. James A Holder was a son of Mr William Hill Holder and Mrs Frances Ruth Sharpe Holder of Yadkin Valley, He entered service on October 7, 1943. He was sent to *NORTH AFRICA *after receiving his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida.
Before entering service he was employed by the Burnhart Furniture Corporation. (He worked as a furniture inspector.)
He is survived by his widow, Mrs Edith Holder and one daughter Sandra Kay, his parents and several brothers and sisters. One brother, Ray Holder, is in service in France.

In January 1944 he was sent by ship to North Africa to
fight. He fought on the front lines. A fragmentiation from a gurnade was what killed my father. My Father paid the ultimate sacrifice. To set us free. At eight teen month old, I don't remember Him. I have ever letter he wrote to my Mother and my Grandmother Holder.

KILLED IN ACTION IN ITALY ON JULY 5, 1944 WHILE SERVING WITH THE 195th INFRANTY AS A RIFLEMAN. TRAINED AT CAMP BLANDEN, FLORIDA.

(BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE) AND CARBINE CLASP.
SHARPSHOOTER BADGE WITH MORTAR CLASP.

AWARDED A PURPLE HEART WITH GOLD STAR POSTHUMOUSLY.

My parents are buried by each other.
My Father was so good to my Grandmother Mettie Greene Allgood Goulds. She was always welcome in their home in Happy Valley, Caldwell County, NC. I do have a picture of it. He was so good to his Mother and Wife. He was a good provider.
