Robert "Bob" William Sharp, age 82, of Harlingen, TX, formerly of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 12, 2022. Bob was born in Highland Center, IA July 15, 1940, the son of William Joseph and Opal Heinbuch Sharp. He attended a one room school house near Chariton, IA. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961. He was in personnel aboard the USS Lexington. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ellen Coghlan on February 26, 1961 in Fremont, Iowa. They were married for 61 years. Bob was a clerk for the Iowa Highway Patrol after his enlistment in the Navy. In November, 1963, he went to work for the Des Moines Register as a district manager and they located to Lancaster, MO. In 1980, he was promoted to State Circulation Manager and they located to West Des Moines, IA. He retired with 37 years from the Des Moines Register/Gannett Publishing in 2000. He was also employed by Farrell Enterprises in Lancaster, MO, as a salesman. He and Margaret were charter members of the Schuyler County, MO, ambulance service during their years of living in Lancaster, MO. He was a long term member of the Lancaster Jaycees. He was a 55 year Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Love #256 A.F.&A.M. in Queen City, MO. He was a member of the VFW Francis Steele Post #817 in Boone, IA. He was a member of the Marion Street Methodist Church in Boone, IA. Recently, he served on the board as treasurer at Cottonwood Estates in Harlingen, TX where they resided. During his 22 years of retirement, he and Margaret enjoyed spending time in TX and Iowa. He loved to golf and had many golfing partners over the years. In his early years, he enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, mushroom hunting, camping and making his famous raspberry jelly. They also enjoyed many years at their cabin near Albia, IA. They took many trips and cruises all over the world. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
