James Edward "Ed' Alderson, age 100, of 2332 Beverly Heights Road Chatham, VA, entered into rest on May 9, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born on February 16, 1917, in Danville, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Alderson and the late Alice Wingfield Alderson. He is survived by his wife, Anne Bagby Ragsdale Alderson.

He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a local embalmer and funeral director for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary Alice Alderson (Duane) Owen and Judy Alderson Schweppe, both of Chatham; one son, Edward Wingfield (Lisa) Alderson of Lynchburg; one grandchild, Anna Alderson; one brother, Elmer Jefferson "Bob" Alderson; and one nephew, David Alderson.

In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Herndon and one brother, Harry Clay Alderson.

Graveside services will be conducted at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery on Saturday May 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tobias Lutz officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence, 2332 Beverly Heights Road Chatham, VA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Concord United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2597 Tightsqueeze Rd. Chatham, VA 24531.
