Rosella "Rose" Gass passed away peacefully on Tuesday.
She was born in the Wesley's Chapel Community on January 16, 1930, to the late Charlie and Mary Weems Dalton. Through her early years, Rosella worked at First National Bank and served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist for Wesley's Chapel Church. Marrying James Earl Gass in 1954, the couple became the first Greeneville Sun June Bridal couple and was the first marriage at Wesley's Chapel. Rosella then kept books for her husband's many business ventures before moving to her son's business; retiring from TEG Lease at the age of 90.
Rosella is remembered as a woman strongly devoted to her family and the Lord. Known for her gentle soul and sound wisdom, Rosella was a best friend and role model to many in her life.
Mrs. Gass was a member of First Christian Church for 54 years. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and Women of the Moose.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Charlie and Mary Weems Dalton; husband: James Earl Gass; brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Chris Dalton; brother and sister-in-law: Leland and Hazel Dalton; granddaughter: Jessica Colter; and a nephew: Daniel Wallace.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Cathy and Larry Lefsky, Tracy and Jennifer Gass, and Alison and David Burns; grandchildren: Jacob Burkey, Rachael (Justin) Barnes, Tanner Gass, Macy Gass, Trebor Gass, Megan Gass, Ty Gass, Dillon Carpenter, Colt Carpenter, and Marali Burns; great-grandchildren: Sunday, Josiah, and Fiona Barnes; special friend and caregiver: Janetta Williams; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and Bryan Fillers, who was like a son to Mrs. Gass.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with Pastors Scott Wakefield and Tyson Hodge officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chimes Mausoleum at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons; Justin Barnes, and Gary Light. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of TEG Lease and Boom Co.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jessica Colter Scholarship, 1113 Tusculum Blvd. # 137, Greeneville, TN 37745.
