Howard Conard Danner, 86, of Grey Street, Mocksville, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Davie County to the late DeWitt Talmadge and Amanda Bowles Danner. As a young man, he played pitcher and first base for local league baseball. Mr. Danner was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mocksville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. Mr. Danner was a long time employee of Burlington Industries in Cooleemee and retired from Armtex, Inc. in Gastonia. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the crops with his neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie D. Bailey; and his stepfather, Lawrence A. Link. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee York Danner of the home; three daughters, Janice D. Jones of Salisbury, Patricia "Patty" D. (Gene) Livengood of Advance and Phyllis D. (Earl) Shoaf of Raleigh; one sister, Helen Bailey Davis of Advance; nine grandchildren, Ricky Shackleford, Chris Shackleford, Gina Oakley, Anita Van Lew, Randy Boger, Jeff Boger, David Boger, Craig Shoaf and Suzanne Ward; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved Chihuahua, "Coco." A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Don Routh and the Rev. Darren Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery.
