JOHNSON, JOSEPH R. "Joe" - December 06, 1963 FLANAGAN, ILLINOIS-- Joe Johnson, 83, Waldo Township, died at 7:40 a.m. today at his home. His funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Flanagan Christian Church, with the Reverend Lloyd Derby officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, south of Flanagan. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the Froelich Memorial Home, Flanagan, and until 2 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Johnson was born 13 May 1880, in Anderson County, Tennessee, a son of William and Elizabeth [Cagley] Johnson. He was married to Miss Julia Simpson on the 7th of September, 1902. She died 7th of January, 1961. He farmed in Waldo Township 53 years. He was a member of Flanagan Christian Church. Surviving are three daughters;
[1] Mrs. Sarah Cecile [Harry] Willhoite of Graymont, Illinois [2] Mrs. Myrtle Letsinger of Benson, Illinois [3] Mrs. Ellen Fosdick of Flanagan, Illinois. Five Sons; [1] Leeds [Buck] Johnson of Chenoa, Illinois [2] Fred Johnson at home [3] Johnny Johnson at home [4] Ernest Johnson of Grand Ridge, Illinois [5] Roger Johnson of Flanagan, Illinois. A sister, Mrs. Cora Bromley, Pontiac; a brother, Matt Johnson, Pontiac; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Three sisters, two brothers, and two great-grandchildren preceded him in death.

In 1917 Joe and Julia tenant farmed 240 acres in Panola R1 Waldo Twp Sec 8. They were listed at the time to have 6 children listed in age from the oldest; Cecile, Myrtle, Lida, Fred, Ernest, and Oliver.
