Eugene Frank Ferdinand Donald Hummer, 94, passed away peacefully on the morning of Easter Sunday, April 1st, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dellamae Hummer, and his granddaughter, Barbara Ann Rollins.

Known to friends and family as Gene, he was born in Charles City, Iowa in 1924 and grew up in Iowa and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Gene began college in Iowa and then joined Army Air Corps in early 1942, shortly after the United States entered World War II. He served for two years during World War II in India. He continued service into the newly formed United States Air Force and was stationed at various bases around the United States, as well as overseas in Japan. He trained in several areas including aircraft maintenance and weather, and retired as Master Sergeant from Nellis AFB in 1963. After his retirement from the USAF, he continued to serve in the civil arena as postal clerk for the United States Postal Service for 20 years in North Las Vegas.

Throughout his life, Gene displayed a tremendous sense of humor and a keen mind for puzzles and trivia. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, riddles, word games, and classic movies, as well as outdoor activities such as hunting. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10047 and held the position of Quartermaster at the local and state levels. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE).

Gene lived a life of commitment to his country and to his family, forever loyal and dedicated to both. He is survived by his two daughters, Marylou Rollins and Donna Stone, as well as two grandchildren, Michael Stone and Janice (Rollins) Monteiro.

Visitation is at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12 followed by graveside service at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice.
