Our dear husband, father, grandfather, Joseph Valery Orgill, age 81, passed away peacefully with a strong body, sound mind, and recommended to the Lord on June 15, 2021.
He was born in 1939 in Vancouver, Canada to Ralph and Maurine Wolloschuk and was later sealed to Maurine and Eugene Orgill, who raised him.
Some of his favorite childhood memories involve roaming the woods with his hatchet, hunting small animals, and being free to roam with his friends and brother Colin.
He served a mission in Switzerland where his lifelong love of language and culture began. He later spent many years traveling throughout Europe, learning different languages, and experiencing life and culture in many countries. He learned to fluently speak Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Swiss German. His love of languages was never-ending, and he had a working knowledge of over 10 total languages.
With a thirst for more adventure, he returned to the US and carried out a 2,555-mile solo bike trip from Salt Lake City, Utah to Quebec, Canada. With only a small bag, sleeping bag, and a map, he rode over 100 miles per day for one month to reach his destination.
Shortly after that trip, through several miracles, he found the love of his life at a church dance in Salt Lake City and was married to Rosanne Buhler in the Salt Lake Temple in 1974.
He earned his Masters degree in French from the University of Utah and later a degree in computer programming. He worked tirelessly to support and provide for his family.
Together, he and Rosanne raised six children, enjoying the challenges and blessings of full family life.
At the age of 50, he ran his first and last marathon and instilled a love of running in his wife and children. He began rollerblading at the age of 63. Skating remained his passion for most of his mature years. He ran his last half marathon at the age of 74 and was dedicated to his fitness until his last day.
In addition to all of his physical and intellectual commitments, his crowning achievement is his dedication to the gospel of Jesus Christ and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a profound love of the Book of Mormon, and a strong connection to the Spirit. His faith is an example to everyone who knew him and flows through him to his family. He is a true example of enduring to the end.
He is survived by his beloved wife Rosanne and six children John (Claudia), Rochelle (Doug), Davey (April), Julianne (Justin), James (Joanna), Amanda (Zach), 29 grandkids, his brother Collin, half-sisters Amy and Bonnie, and half-siblings Janice and Randy.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather Eugene Orgill, mother Maurine Orgill, father Ralph Wolloschuk, and brother Rudolph.
One of his favorite sayings when pursuing a challenge was, "There will come a day when I cannot do this, today is not that day." He inspired his family with an unending dedication to faith, life, learning, and overcoming challenges. His go-to phrase to conclude any story or humblebrag was "just sayin'."
