Mrs. Martha Jean "Pete" ,"Peepsie" Barwick Fields, age 93 of Vidalia passed away early Thursday morning at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in the Lothair Community of Treutlen County, she was the youngest and last living of six children born to the late Nathan Manning Barwick and Catherine Gertrude Odom Barwick. She grew up in the Lothair Community helping out, as all young children did in that era, on local neighboring farms. She attended the Crossroads School and was a graduate of Soperton High School. In 1948 she married Treutlen County native and lifelong friend, Jack Wynn Fields. In 1962 they moved to Vidalia with their jobs. Mrs. Fields worked in the Accounting Department of Piggly Wiggly Southern in Vidalia for over thirty years until retiring in the early 1990s.

She had been a longtime and faithful member of Vidalia First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed cutting her grass and keeping her yard in shape and was passionate about crossword puzzles and being a wife, mother and MaMa.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack Wynn Fields, who passed away in 2008; her siblings, Kermit Lamar Barwick, an infant brother, Edith Barwick Dickinson, Merle Barwick Reynolds, Juanita Barwick Phillips; and a grandson, Michael Moses.

Mrs. Fields leaves behind her daughters, Kathy Moses (Martin) of Uvalda, Pollyann Martin (Richard) of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Brett Thompson of Uvalda and Savanna Martin Cummings (Michael) of Rocky Mount, NC; a great-grand daughter, Katie Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00 am from the Vidalia First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Smith and Reverend David Blalock officiating. Mrs. Fields will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Fowler Cemetery in Lothair. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Reeves, Luke Moses, Chase Youngblood, Bobby Hamilton, Al Heath, and Jose Caraballo. Her family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia, or friends may call at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Pollyann and Richard Martin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory are encouraged to be made to the Vidalia First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 150, Vidalia, GA 30475, or Community Hospice, 904 Mt. Vernon Rd., Vidalia, GA 30474.
