Arlen T. Klinger, 60, of 40 Dock St., Schuylkill Haven, died Thursday morning at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center where he had been a patient 2½ weeks.
Born in Barry Township, he was a son of Talbert Klinger and stepson of Dorothy Klouser Klinger, both of Valley View, and son of the late Elsie Mae Kimmel Klinger.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Klinger attended Hegins Area High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy with a minor in Latin in 1956 from Dickinson College, Carlisle, a Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 1960 from Mount Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and a Master of Education Degree in 1969 from Bloomsburg University.
He was pastor of Heidelberg Slatedale Lutheran Parish from 1959 to 1961; a teacher for the mentally retarded in the Quarryville School District from 1961 to 1967; teacher coordinator of classes for the mentally retarded in Pottsville Area School District in 1968 and 1969, and a guidance counselor at Schuylkill Haven Area High School since 1969.
Mr. Klinger attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Summer Hill, and was a member of Marion Grange 1853, Stouchsburg [Marion, Berks Co], and its bowling team, and of the Weekend Wheeler Camping Club.
A daughter, Dawn E. Klinger, died June 28, 1972.
Surviving are his wife, the former Constance Ash, librarian at THE REPUBLICAN to whom he was married for 38 years; three daughters, Deborah Ann Hummer, Schuylkill Haven, Kathleen Ann Robinson, Alexandria, VA, and Karen Marie McCoach, Birdsboro area; a brother, Larry Snyder, York; three sisters, Allene Shadle, Hegins, Ruth Goines, San Antonio, TX, and Treazure Eiffes, Mechanicsburg; two half brothers, Dennis Klinger, Souderton, and Kerry Klinger, New Ringgold; four half sisters, Judy Schneider, Valley View, Cheryl Macy, Harrisburg, Cindy Siegel, Pine Grove area, and Bonnie Jean Judy, Pitman area; two grandsons.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Summer Hill. The Rev. Frederick Fisher will officiate. Interment will be in Summer Hill Cemetery. Geschwindt Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc, Schuylkill haven, is in charge of arrangements.
