Theodore Gates, Jr. was born March 2, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio to Nellie Mae (Black) and Theodore Gates, Sr. At age 87, he went home to be with the Lord Saturday, November 14, 2020, in Dayton.

Theodore was baptized at Zion Baptist Church on Sprague St. He graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio in 1951. Then he was drafted into the United States Army as a medic in 1953. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service for 33 years as a mail carrier.

He was a kind and caring man, who gave the best kisses. He always said, ‘Where’s my Suga’. He always had time to listen and pray with people, he would welcome you in, offer you a beer and sit and crack a joke. You always felt loved after seeing him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Mae Gates; father, Theodore Gates Sr.; sister Mary (O’Neal) Shyne; son, Michael W. Peeks; and sister-in-law, Nina Gates.

Theodore leaves to cherish his loving wife of 56 years Veronica Gates; beautiful children, Michele Peeks, Adrennia (Phillip) Kelly, Terri (Dennis) Gates-Spinks; special daughters, Jamie (Kevin) Watt, Denise Finley, Pam Wilson and Felicia (Jerry) Hill; brothe,r Charles Gates of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Melita Peeks, Tamara Washington, Brandon Dawson, Terronica (Delvin) Perkins; eight great-grandchildren Niah, Jalynn, Jordan, Destini, Frederick III, Makenzi, Elijah and Delvin Jr.; special cousins, Peggy Johnson, James Larry Barnes, Delmar Barnes, David Williams, his Atlanta, Georgia family; a host of special nieces and nephews.
