HALLEY – Mike Halley, Michael D. Halley, 67, passed away peacefully October 1, 2020. Born July 12, 1953, on the Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township, Michigan, Mike will be lovingly remembered by Margie, his wife of 34 years, and their sons: Dustin (Mary) Ashby and Troy (Beth) Ashby, and grandsons: Will, Carter, Bennett, Colin, Keaton, and Jonas.

Blessed with a caring heart and a genuine desire to help others, especially children, Mike spent 34 years in public education as a teacher, counselor, and coach. He spent much of his young adult life in the state of Kansas pursuing secondary education. Mike received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education at McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas, where he was a member of the football team. He received a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Fort Hays State, and then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Emporia State University.

Mike’s love for education and children allowed him to impact many lives. He served as Camp Director for the summer youth camps affiliated with the Brethren Church in Colorado. During his years with the Pattonville School District, he started the after-school care program at Briar Crest Elementary. Upon retirement, he served the YMCA as Site Director for their after-school care program.

From bowling to softball leagues to cheering on his beloved New York Yankees, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Buffaloes, Mike loved his sports. When he could no longer compete himself, he could still be found on the hardwood officiating basketball and volleyball or softball diamond umpiring several nights a week.

Mike parleyed his love for sports into his love for travel. Mike and his wife traveled the country, with many trips “coincidentally” matching up with a Major League Baseball game in the destination city.

Mike’s greatest love of all was his wife and family, especially his grandchildren. He treasured the time he spent with his grandsons and, with the help of Amazon, made sure they had everything they wanted or needed.

They say a man’s best friend is his dog, and Mike was a true testimony to this as he always had one of his beloved Yorkies by his side.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Eldean Halley, mother: Delores “Corky” Richards, and brothers: Patrick and Doug Halley.

A Memorial / Celebration of Life service for Mike will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 9, 2020. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr.,St. Charles, MO 63304.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the McPherson College Fund – https://www.mcpherson.edu/giving/make-a-gift/.
