Howard A. Miller 89, a lifelong resident of Aurora went home to the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 13, 1927 in Aurora to Elden and Ellen (Stutzman) Miller. Howard attended Aurora schools where he played football and made many lifelong friends. His first job was working with his father in his trucking business, upon the death of his father, he purchased his first backhoe and began Howard Miller and Sons Excavating, Inc. He ran the company for forty years working with several of his sons and grandsons. Together they built many homes, buildings and lakes in the Aurora area. Howard was a member of the Aurora Mennonite Church where he was active in the church seniors group, helped with building projects and was the church sexton for many years. He was on the board of trustees for the Haven of Rest in Akron for many years. Vacations to Nebraska with his wife Edna made many wonderful memories for the children. Survivors include his wife of 69 years Edna (Sweitzer), daughters Sandra (William) Brown of Maryland and Rose (Mike) Staples of Streetsboro, sons Keith (Cheryl) of Aurora, David (Darlene) of Oregon, Tim (Lori) of Suffield, Tom (Pat) of Fairlawn and Kevin (Terri) of North Carolina, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a sister Leulla Yoder of Elizabethtown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Charles and brothers Lamar, William and Raymond. Calling hours will be from 9 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Aurora Mennonite Church. Brother William Brown and Jim Swartz will officiate. Burial will follow in the Aurora Mennonite Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market Street, Akron, OH 44308. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel.
