Polly Davis was raised on a farm in rural northern LA with seven siblings. She hated her name of "Polly" so she changed it as a young adult to Pauline, but her family continued to call her Polly. Enjoying hunting and fishing instead of dolls, she had a tomboy personality. She was never met a stranger and many times was the "life of the party". She was married at least three times: Mr.Dunkin prior to her mother's 1937 obit, Mr. C.F. Gohlke, and as Mr. Gohlke's widow, married Mr. Winfred Mehnert on 9 Jul 1985, while both were residents in a nursing home. She was buried next to Mr. Gohlke and pictured with him on her memorial in a celebration with a cake cutting. She never had children, but did raise her youngest brother's oldest daughter, Shirley.
On August 17, 2013, it was learned that although she was buried next to her second husband CJ Gohlke, her marker has the surname Mehnert.
